Composite Fillings

Tooth decay forms when the bacteria in your mouth turns to acid. When we eat sugary foods, we feed the oral microbiota (bacteria), and they produce an acid that extracts minerals from tooth enamel. When bacterial acids attack tooth enamel, the enamel decalcifies and cavities (decay) develop. Without professional treatment by a dentist, tooth decay can advance and enter the core of a tooth, as well as its root canals. Over time, this can require root canal therapy, or in some cases, extraction of the tooth.

A composite filling is a tooth-colored restoration used to repair tooth damage caused by decay, cracks, or fractures. Each composite filling is made out of composite resin, which has tooth color, in contrast with the old silver fillings (amalgam) and does not contain any mercury. Composite fillings can closely match the shade of your existing teeth, making them practically invisible. Our specialist Prosthodontists and general dentists at Dental Esthetics Boston will meticulously explain all the options available to you.
