Porcelain Fixed Bridges
At Dental Esthetics Boston, we offer fixed porcelain dental bridges as a permanent solution for restoring your smile when you have one or two missing teeth. The porcelain dental bridge "bridges the gap" between your remaining teeth.
A Porcelain Fixed Bridge restores 1 missing tooth and provides a lifelike restorative option, alternative to dental implants. It consists of two porcelain dental crowns that are placed over the adjacent teeth (abutment teeth) and attached to porcelain pontic tooth, filling the space left by the missing tooth.
Dental bridges are highly durable and, with proper care, can last approximately ten years. However, they may require occasional repair or replacement due to normal wear over time.
A porcelain fixed bridge offers several benefits:
- Restores your smile by filling the gap left by missing teeth
- Supports the facial tissues and prevents the remaining teeth from shifting
- Restores the ability to chew and speak naturally
- Remains in place as you eat, speak, and sleep, just like natural teeth
The process of getting a bridge typically involves two or more visits. During the first visit, the anchoring teeth are prepared by removing a portion of enamel to allow for the placement of crowns. An accurate impression is then taken and sent to a dental laboratory, where your bridge will be custom fabricated. In the meantime, a temporary bridge will be placed to protect your teeth. During the second visit, your permanent bridge will be carefully checked, adjusted, and cemented to ensure a proper fit. In some cases, we may initially use temporary cement to allow time for your teeth and tissues to adapt to the new bridge. The permanent cementation of the bridge will take place at a later appointment.
